- CQ, CQ, CQ – For the Highland Lakes Amateur Radio Club ARES Amateur Radio Emergency Service Net. This is [ Call Sign ] , net control station for this evenings net.

- The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES®) is a registered trademark of the American Radio Relay League, (ARRL®) and this net is sponsored by the Highland Lakes Amateur Radio Club (HLARC). Please join us monthly for our club meeting on the last Friday of the month at the Marble Falls Public Library at 1930 local. Visitors are always welcome.
- The purpose of our ARES net is to provide emergency communications when regular communications fail or become inadequate during natural or man-made disaster for jurisdictions and agencies within Burnet and Llano Counties.
- When ARES is activated by a served agency, it operates under the Highland Lakes ARES emergency communications plan, coordinated by the emergency coordinator (EC) in conjunction with the district and section emergency plans of the ARRL.
- This net is scheduled for drill purposes every Sunday night at 2030 local time on the HLARC 146.660 MHz repeater with a PL tone of 88.5, courtesy of the HLARC and the repeater trustee.
The 145.290 repeater with a tone of 114.8 is used as a back up, courtesy of KB5YKJ, the repeater trustee.
- The purpose of this net is to provide training and experience for ARES members and interested visitors in directed net operation as preparation for an actual emergency. In addition, it provides liaison opportunities with other ARES units.
- This is a directed net. NCS duty rotates among members to provide experience. Next week, the NCS is [ _______ ].
- Net Check-ins will be taken in groups. After all check-ins are complete, the training AEC will provide a brief training session. Following the training session, the net may be declared informal and all stations will be asked to give a brief check in report. The net should take 30 minutes or less under normal conditions. When checking in, please say This Is [ ] and give your call sign followed by ITU phonetics. Please do not pass routine traffic at this time.

12. If the net has now run 30 minutes or less go to step 13. If the net has lasted longer than 30 minutes go to step 15.
13. Call for stations to check out of the net that would like to do so before the informal portion of the net. Say: ARE THERE ANY STATIONS THAT WOULD LIKE TO CHECK OUT OF THE NET PRIOR TO THE INFORMAL PORTION OF THE NET? Acknowledge all stations that check out. Go to step 14.
14. Declare the net informal and ask for comments from every station in the order they checked into the net.
Say: The net is now declared informal and I will call all stations for informal comments. At the conclusion of informal comments, I will close the net. OR…
15. Due to time constraints, we will not have informal comments but everyone is encouraged to make contacts after the net closing.
